Guidelines
Friendly to all. Not super selective (can be slow as a result). No triggers. Anything goes. Hit Jiraiya up if you like toads and/or books and/or have DD’s (for real, any questions–IM me).
These are more like disclaimers/clarification of a few points than rules.
MUN:-
Is 25+ and goes by Rowan. He/him.
I’m quite terrible at approaching people but I do my best. I tend to follow people, then spend time getting familiar with their posting and writing style for a while before actually getting the courage to speak up or even hit ❤ on a post. Please bear with me :’D
You can also find me here and here but very rarely. Mostly included in case I do feel the inclination to switch focus on muses for a while, so you know who I am if I then follow you from either blog!
CONTENT:-
It’s Jiraiya, and he’s morally dubious even with his heart of gold. He’s bawdy, he’s rowdy, he’s an inflammatory bastard and is riddled with vices. This means there’ll be references to drugs, sex and alcohol (the latter two most of all).
That aside, I am open to dark or taboo subjects, and will do my best to tag 'cw trigger' or 'tw trigger' in any instance I can imagine it being touchy for others. I’m not perfect, so please let me know if I need to tag something.
(And tbh I’ll admit, said ‘taboo content’ is mostly limited to age gap ships, his habit of voyeurism and lechery which I prefer to keep in the realm of light humour, and sometime mentions of infidelity–which only occurs if it’s something both muns desire.)
I put explicit porn under read mores and tag it {rated:m}, along with general posts that could be considered ‘risqué’.
SHIPPING:-
I don’t do exclusives. I’ll explore a ship with any number of ‘duplicate’ canon character portrayals, because every one is different. Their histories and headcanons will have subtle variances, as will the dynamic they end up sharing. Likewise, I don’t expect exclusivity from my partners–but I’m completely happy to do non-romantic or unrequited with those who exclusively ship with another Jiraiya.
I will consider mains, but it’s something that needs to come organically over time for me! I may mention your muse where it's fitting to do so, and am happy for my Jiraiya to be referred to in any asks/threads/whatever you find fitting, even if I'm not involved.
Having said all that, when it comes to rarepairs and those he doesn’t really come into contact with in the canon, it’s dependent on the individual mun + muse. If I ship with one of X character, it does not mean Jiraiya will automatically connect with another iteration of X character.
Also, he will always have a crush on some level on his two best friends, Tsunade and Orochimaru. This doesn’t mean I expect shipping, because one-sided love is part of the Jiraiya territory. But if there’s any issue with IC conduct please let me know.
Hell yes I’ll ship with OCs. Extra points if the OC is Sannin gen but… hahaha I’ll shush.
Jiraiya is so damn bi. He identifies this way because he doesn’t have the language to describe himself as pan, which is probably more accurate technically, but he would likely be most comfortable with the term ‘bisexual’ anyway. Anyway, this means he is not only into manly men and womanly women, but also masculine women, feminine men, trans men and women in whatever degree of gender non/conformity, nonbinary, genderfluid and agender people–there is really no limit to who he can feel that spark of attraction with. As a trans mun I just feel the need to point this out so you know this is a space where you can feel welcome involving your muse’s gender, body and sexuality in shipping threads–even if they don’t fit the ‘standard’.
Side note on children: As it’s come up, I will only write biological children of Jiraiya’s in any serious degree if it’s been plotted and agreed with me first. In most cases, be warned that I probably won’t be interested. This is because outside of ships I have with other muns where it’s all organic and based on our muses' established story, ‘random’ bio kids without a relationship tend to have backgrounds that go against my headcanons based on my perception of Jiraiya’s character and hang-ups around having his own family, and my own personal comfort. Too often, it strays into god-mod territory with how they came to be. I’m not interested in playing a deadbeat dad, nor a dad that has been deceived and/or had children hidden from him, or whose children just 'appear' out of the blue.
Final point on shipping: I do ship things regardless of age gap, so long as the other muse isn’t in their teens, and preferably mid-20s and above. Jiraiya’s personal limit is also if he knew the person too closely when they were a kid, while he was an adult. If he ever felt like an adult role model or familial figure to a child in any way, platonic-romantic is not a line he’s willing to cross even once they grow into adults.
FOLLOWING, POSTING & ACTIVITY:-
I cannot stress this enough: never feel the need to match my length!! Jiraiya is possibly the most verbose muse I’ve ever had, but as long as I have a decent hook to work from, enough action or dialogue to react to, reply length really is no issue.
Please be aware that I can take an age at times; my schedule was forged in an abyss where time is meaningless and I have to sleep a whole lot when I’m recovering from shifts. If it interests you, my time zone is GMT/BST, but because I work a mix of nights and days that has little bearing on my online times :’)
I strongly encourage us starting threads from asks, comments on asks and even dash-com posts! Sometimes they develop into full-blown plots and I love that; in fact it's probably the easiest way to start establishing a dynamic with me. All I ask is that if you want to tag me in a more serious starter not related to dash activity, let’s just discuss it briefly first of all so I’m not hit out of the blue. I track my tag with notifications of new tagged posts, and will like it when I’ve seen it.
I don't care about formatting, you do you and I'll do me. It'll frustrate me if I find I can't read things easily due to over-formatting, but it won't deter me from writing.
I sometimes take a while to follow back, as there are times when I’m mobile-bound and I like to be able to check people’s blogs and pages thoroughly before following. I also tend to do so via checking my followers tab because notifs don't always notif, which I do perhaps once or twice a month?
Sometimes it simply takes me a while because I have to think harder about how our muses would interact, and I don’t want to raise expectations that I’ll be quick to jump in. I’m a very slow and steady person at the best of times, and basically I don’t wanna disappoint so I’m sometimes tentative around following if I don’t have an immediate vision or ideas for a verse (this mostly applies to muses that are not Naruto verse). If your muse is from another fandom, feel free to suggest any ideas you have and I'll probably be down.
Even if I’m not following you, asks and IMs are always welcome, and although I prefer to be mutuals for proper, plotty threads, if we hit it off in casual interaction I will no doubt follow back anyway!
CANON/TIMELINE COMPLIANCE:-
I go by this timeline when working out the disaster that is Jiraiya’s life. It’s fully sourced with references to the canon material as presented in both the anime and manga, although I don’t think it classes filler?
With regards to filler, I use a buffet table approach–use what I like, ignore what I dislike. If filler material I include in my muse’s canon also pertains to your muse at all, don’t worry! I will ask prior to assuming it as truth for our thread! But generally speaking, I do adopt most of the Jiraiya/Sannin-specific filler into my canon (not that there's a huge amount haha).
I’m making it my business to try and fill in as many blanks as I can using the canon timeline, so please consider viewing the Jiraiya-specific timeline I've made where I go through all the nitty gritty I can think of.
Also note that this is just for my default portrayal. I am always happy to work with other people’s timeline ideas, and when it comes to threading I am absolutely no stickler because not every detail of events has to be mentioned in every thread. Many threads will see divergence occur from the point we begin. But be aware that if you’re plotting with me I have spent extensive time trying to work with the mess we were given, and like to make everything make some degree of sense as to what point in the timeline we're dealing with. It makes a huge difference as to the struggles my muse is currently dealing with, and therefore his mindset and reactions to things could alter. So do forgive me if it makes me sound super rigid when I start talking about surrounding events haha. I’m really not! I just have things my brain likes to fixate on and timelines is one of them. [redacted innuendo about slotting things neatly together]
THANK YOU FOR READING, SORRY THIS IS SO STUPIDLY LONG!
